I thought the choice by the director to make the main characters Germans added to the anti-war agenda. At that time, many of the viewers would most likely dislike the characters because of their background. After watching the film however, they would have seen how the German soldiers were really very similar to the Allied soldiers. In this way, I feel that the movie was very successful in capturing an anti-war sentiment and showing that we are all really more alike than we think.
I agree. One of the things that the director was really successful in doing is proving the point that the side of the war and the politics of the war do not matter as much as the outcome. And yet, the gruesome outcome is much less heard about.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I didn't comment on this post. I'm going back back back in time, and it seems like I missed almost every one. Meanwhile, this one is very familiar. Anyway, it's very good, very accurate, and I'm glad Katya commented as well.
