Though I could appreciate all quiet on the western front as a well done movie, I have so far enjoyed Citizen Kane much more. The character of Kane is much more charismatic and controversial than any of the characters from the previous movie. The acting is much better, though this may be partially due to the fact that Citizen Kane was made more recently. The plot is also much more difficult to predict. So far, I have no idea who or what rosebud could be (no one tell me), but I felt that i knew that each of the soldiers would die before All Quiet on the Western Front ended. I am very much looking forward to continuing this movie.

You ever get the feeling some of the people who knew him are there for comic relief?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% man. While All Quiet was more of a movie that was meant to get a message across, and for its time managed to do so quite well, Kane has been much more entertaining and so far as held my attention throughout the movie while the first one moved very slowly at times. I have never seen this movie before and also have no idea what rosebud could mean but I am defiantly going to bet it was just a random phrase he uttered to get people to do a full investigation of his life in order to try and figure out what it may have meant, while he only wanted to make sure people remembered him.
ReplyDeleteTo paraphrase Bernstein, "you'll be surprised what people can remember."
ReplyDeleteTo Paul: No way, Jose. Rosebud is a real thing or person. I won't give away even that much. But, it's not an idea. It exists in teh real, material world, which makes sense considering that Kane lives in a world of wealth and materialsim, which he is ultimately uncomforatable with.
